15.07 today. Very short days now beautiful sunset; that's a lot of high rises for not a big city Look to be 9 floors for the buildings to the right, and I believe the ones to the left have 11 or 12 floors. Does that count as high rise? Anyway all newly built apartment buildings are 6 floors or higher. Probably because no one is building out the edges of the city, so any new building will have to occupy the space of either an old demolished building, or the small stretches of forests inbetween boroughs, and in those situations I'd assume it to be more cost effective to build more apartments in the alotted space, i.e. taller buildings. Btw, I've posted lots of nice sunsets from my balcony, and that was by far the least pretty one. Barely even counts as a sunset. This one I posted a couple days prior was a lot nicer. That album only got 2 likes so maybe it went largely unnoticed (or people were pissed at me due to covid controvercies which I get).

Some pics from today... This snow is about 80cm deep. The top is icy and hard: hope you had snowshoes! you've been good at get snow hiking or snow in mountains this month; has it been snowier than usual there? I should be the one who has the most of that. Don't think even the White Mountains or Adirondacks have more than a few inches of snow this month. No I was only wearing some normal shoes, and not even ones good for snow but that wasn't an issue. The main issue was falling through the snow which was knee deep. Good exercise! I think it's about normal snow depth for this time of year.

It rained the whole day yesterday, but today was cloudless, so I took the opportunity to leave my apartment. Didn't go out until 14:20 though, so the sun had already set once I left the door. (Sunset was 14:12, and the previous image was taken 14:27) Rest of the images: They're still not finished cleaning up from the mess left by the snowstorm last week. I took a photo of this exact spot (although seen from the opposite side of where that truck is standing), of the fallen over trees and broken branches, in my snow storm album from Nov 19th. I've taken quite a few photos around the campus, but I've never really showed any pictures of the university from outside campus. I keep forgetting how massive the campus actually is. I wonder if it's big by international standards as well. Here's a satellite view of the campus (red marker). The previous picture was taken from the blue spot on the map. The area within the red line is in and of itself pretty huge with an almost constant diameter of 800-900m. But if you factor in the university hospital that's tightly integrated with the campus (yellow marker), it's even more massive. Lots of different university programs have their classes around the hospital, so it kinda should count. There's a nice football field there as a size reference. There's also a separate campus for art and architecture etc. that's located 1.5km away in the city center. So what do you think? Is this actually a large university, or is it just large in relation to Umeรฅ's otherwise very small size? 34k students and 4k employees. And the population of Umeรฅ urban area and municipality are 90k/130k. The only tunnel in Umeรฅ, which has started to piss me off now that I live right outside its eastern entrance, because literally every single motorcyclist and BMW driver puts the pedal to the metal once they're inside it, and I never had even the remotes idea of how LOUD it can actually sound. I really hope they could put some speed cameras inside the tunnel or something like that because it's honestly quite insane how loud that tunnel can be sometimes. I don't think drivers even realize how much noise they're actually making towards the people living close to the tunnels; if none, except for the extreme assholes, would even think about doing it. It rained the whole day yesterday, and I was pretty worried the snow wouldn't completely melt, leaving an icy mess closest to the ground that potentially could last all the way into April. But luckily, the snow did manage to melt pretty much completely (apart from snow heaps and walls from shoveling, and on some north-facing slopes). Ok, I mean, we're not completely rid of the snow, but at least everything isn't covered by an icy mess. Those new and fancy riverside "highrises" really do look quite nice, at least with the sun setting in the perfect angle. The purple backside walls are a bit odd I guess but whatever.

Been too busy to post anything lately but things have slowed down a little now. Last week has been quite nice. Went for a walk with the dog on Monday, was able to snap a few photos. Down at the harbour, the vessel Pelagica was unloading her load of... vessels.

Some cold last couple of mornings. Yesterday saw some thin ice on the local pond. My best friend has moved to Falun to study, but came up for the weekend, so we went and had a fika downtown. The new library and hotel. Supposed to look like a birch. Nice sunset.

Went to a quiet state park this afternoon. It being November 28th didn't hurt but I've never seen large crowds here which is nice. Kind of off the beaten path.

I went for a hike with my uncle and brother on Saturday. It was only about 3 miles but had very nice views and was nice to get up to the mountains. The hike weirdly alternated between 3 foot snow drifts and areas of bare ground. It was in the upper 40s, sunny and wind free so very nice hiking weather. Nice view early in the hike. Can see the backs of the flatirons, the town of Nederland and out into the plains already. < Looking up at Bald mountain, you can see South Arapahoe peak peaking through. The Caribou Hill summit was 10,439โ, about 800โ above the trailhead. Summit views: The ski mountain in the photo is Eldora. Looking down at the trailhead: >

Great photos. They really have a winter vibe. Is that ski Area Arapahoe Basin? No, itโs Eldora which is a smaller, cheaper local mountain.

Couple pics from today is all I took. In these shots is when the snowfall first hit the higher elevations and descended from then on.

Not the greatest quality since I had to rush to take it but thought the sky looked pretty cool tonight. Clouds quickly covered the moon and it started raining again shortly thereafter.

Short hike to Walyunga National Park, about 30km NE of Perth CBD in an area of the Perth Hills that is less travelled. Me and a mate hiked around the confluence of the Avon River and Wooroloo Brook. Did a 2.5 hour bushbash (there are some trails but I wanted to explore) up two hills, the first had about 140m prominence from our starting point and the 2nd had a prominence of 160m. Sunny weather for the whole hike with some SW gusts occasionally coming through. Looking up the Wooroloo Brook valley on a basaltic outcrop: Nice Tree: Views:

A video I took on November 7, 2020 15:41. Weather was 6C with a -6C dew point and winds coming out of the north. Some of my favorite type of weather. Why can't we have this in Dec/Jan?

I just found a couple of pictures I took just after moving back from Grenoble to the village, so at the end of the last October (if not the very first days of November, I'm not sure...). However, there was a sort of a funny sky that day.
