Haha, poor South Africa have a tough time in their own backyard! They're a great team though. We've beaten them the past two times in South Africa and they have beaten us twice at home! That victory gave people hope that England would be able to perform in similar conditions in Australia, also highlighted how important Stokes was. He had a great series, bowled well and hit a very fast and aggressive 258 in the second test. Was the second fastest double century in test cricket, and the fastest 250 ever. I remember I was meant to be going out somewhere that morning just after that innings had started and thought fuck that, I'm not missing something as special as this! That was like a two-hour powerplay from him and Bairstow, every ball they liked the look of got absolutely hammered to the boundary and beyond! I've never seen anything like it.

I think they need to call up the likes of Plunkett, but obviously his face doesn't fit. It's clear that medium-fast swing bowlers are useless in those conditions. But the team has become an old boys club where no-one can be dropped.

Predictable, England are finally on top and the stadium quickly empties. By the end all you could hear was the Barmy Army.

I admit you guys clearly won today, but no need to get cocky just yet Good century by Cook, I was kinda glad for the guy. He looked so damn relieved when that happened.

Ashes is all about the banter, we've waited 4 tests for the chance to be cocky. Don't spoil our moment

Good response by Cook to those calling for his retirement.

Typical Australian media making up ball-tampering claims now that we are on top.
As if the Aussies would score 103 if we really were reverse swinging the ball.

I must say, it's the first time I've seen a team accused of tampering with the SHINY side of the ball. Although you can't blame them, Aussies don't know all that much about swinging a ball

Payback for the match-fixing crap. Dumb stories like this come out all the time.

Payback for the match-fixing crap. Dumb stories like this come out all the time. And guess who owns the paper that came up with the match fixing nonsense? Your very own Rupert Murdoch

Your very own Rupert Murdoch Never said I liked the guy. I wish the ashes were free of stories like this. It adds no "fuel to the fire" and it doesn't seem to affect the performance of both teams.

It definitely affects English players. A lot of English teams have fallen apart in Australia over the years. When they're having a bad series, vicious media stories, witty sledging, and nasty crowd chants will break some of the mentally weak players. Happened to Jonathan Trott and Graeme Swann last time around.

Is it just those two? I do recall that from 2013, but I don't know of any other cases. Most other English teams in the past have put up a somewhat of a fight here so I don't know if any other careers would have ended.

Steve Harmison and a couple others had a bit of a nightmare in 06/07, and the media went to ridiculous lengths to try and break Broad in the last series down under, but he could handle it.

The arguments between their fans and Pakistan fans on the internet are embarrassing. The amount of times I have seen "kohli/tendulkar > bradman" has caused a permanent imprint of my right hand on my forehead. Lol, third worlders and Internet connections don't mix well. Bradman 's the best sportsman to ever live. Don't think there's ever been someone who's as far ahead as the competition as he was. Poor protection, crap pitches, bodyline tactics, etc. Nothing could stop him. Not to mention that he also lost some of his best years to the war.
