I did go to the first day of the England-West Indies Test match at Headingley last summer though, more or less full crowd, good atmosphere, Stokes got a century etc.
It cost £35 and that was one of the cheapest seats, how much does it cost to go to a Test match anywhere else you guys have watched it?

Went to a boxing day test when it was Aus vs West Indies in 2015, I remember it being a cold ass day and a bunch of our players made centuries. I got the ticket as a present, so I don't know what the price was. I'd guess $80-100AUD for the first day, maybe even more.

I love T20 as a a spectacle, but my reservation comes from the fact that on their day a team can win from pure luck. Everyone's had those days where a batsmen just swings at everything and pulls it off. As the fielding team sometimes there's very little you can do against an aggressive batsman who's seeing everything go his way.

Cricket thread is the 2nd most popular sports thread here after soccer/football thread even though this thread started 1 month after the latter. Also love 20/twenty as a spectacle/entertainment sport, also that it's on for 1.5-2 months every day during summer is great. Test match is personally my favourite still, especially to listen to on the radio for hours per day but 20/twenty is growing on me.

Ashes: Joe Root has been soft and looks like a little boy - Ricky PontingThoughts? Obviously there's a lot of mind games involved here but he's got a point IMO, I thought he wasn't ready to be captain yet and they should have given it to somebody a bit more assertive like Stuart Broad. I remember the first morning of his first Test as captain, Ben Stokes had a half-chance turned down and said straight away "Right, we're reviewing this!" and Root didn't even try and assert his authority, Cook would never have let him get away with that!

The ECB seem to be in the habit of making their best player captain rather than their best leader. I think Broad should have stepped up to the role.

Hopefully England can put on a decent performance and the place will empty like it did in 2011. Fickle bunch you Aussies No, but I do need to give credit to the barmy army as they still sing and muck around regardless of the result. Dedicated bunch.

Also pretty much every team these days is only brilliant at home, which is quite sad. The only place Australia finds success overseas is in South Africa, due to the similar conditions. I assume England does well in New Zealand?

I assume England does well in New Zealand? England have only won one test series away from home since 2012, and that was in South Africa early last year. They last toured NZ in 2013 and all three tests ended in draws, two tests were rained off. Before that they last toured NZ in 2008, and won 2-1. At the same time, England have only lost one series at home since 2012.

Haha, poor South Africa have a tough time in their own backyard! They're a great team though.
We've beaten them the past two times in South Africa and they have beaten us twice at home!

That victory gave people hope that England would be able to perform in similar conditions in Australia, also highlighted how important Stokes was. He had a great series, bowled well and hit a very fast and aggressive 258 in the second test. Was the second fastest double century in test cricket, and the fastest 250 ever.

Yeah, it gave us hope as well that we could play and win overseas haha. Also when we recently visited India and destroyed Virat Kholi whilst Smith made three centuries, seeing all the Indian butthurt was amazing. Shame we couldn't clinch the series. Kinda glad stokes was unable to make the side, who knows what would have transpired if he was there. Maybe 2-0 or 2-1 by now? (The win being the Adelaide test)

India should be embarrassed that they don't win very series by a whitewash. Considering the size of their population and the fact that the country is mad about the sport.

They should also be very embarrassed about the average intelligence of their fanbase.

The arguments between their fans and Pakistan fans on the internet are embarrassing.

The arguments between their fans and Pakistan fans on the internet are embarrassing. The amount of times I have seen "kohli/tendulkar > bradman" has caused a permanent imprint of my right hand on my forehead.

So Aus bat first and our bowlers don't look remotely threatening on the first day, zzz...
I just want to see some good evenly-matched games at this point after all these series dominated by the home team, I'm not even that bothered if we don't win the Ashes back in 2019 so long as it's a decent 2-2 or 2-3.
