2nd is pretty impressive. Wouldn't have thought yinz would have ever placed that high in any games

We've become a very consistent team, haven't finished outside the top 4 since 2004. British sport has come a long way since the dark days of Atlanta, 1996:

Our worst games was easily Montreal. One silver and 4 bronze lol. However, what's even funnier is that Canada didn't win a gold medal at its own games! Shortly after this the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) was created and we haven't looked back since. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_Summer_Olympics_medal_table

This was a decent stat for us. Medals in 25 sports, more than any other country.

Of the Golds we won, the last we won was my favourite. It was thought that Jason Kenny's best days were behind him, he knew he couldn't win by staying in the pack, so pulled off the balliest attack ever seen in. Just went for it right at the start and the others were caught off guard.

Our worst games was easily Montreal. One silver and 4 bronze lol. However, what's even funnier is that Canada didn't win a gold medal at its own games! Shortly after this the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) was created and we haven't looked back since. For us it was national lottery funding that began in the 90's. Teams that do well are rewarded, those that slack get funding cut. I've heard that Australia have a near-identical funding model to us. Although it's not just about the amount, it's how we'll targeted it is. Our best funded team were the rowers, £24 million but they were farcical and didn't win a gold. Then teams on barely anything did win Golds. The BMX riders got crowdfunded online, and won two Golds, so that might need a rethink. Looking at the ridiculous amount of medals on offer in swimming, and the fact that pretty much every town has good indoor swimming facilities, we would be smart to throw way more at that.

We finished 8th. Looks like China's shitty escalators have been an effective program in producing many talented parathletes.

There's no Paris 2024 thread, and no point making one when the event is nearly over. This Olympics has been Australia's best in history! 18 golds is a new record.

How's Finland's media reacted to this? That's really bad for a country with a historically strong Olympic tradition.
