Some from the Bank Holiday weekend. Took me a while to put them together, so decided it would be best to post them in the new thread. Weatherwise, this was by far the roughest day of the weekend, but it suits the mountainous landscape sometimes. Although there's certainly no summery scenes on display here This area had one of the coolest Mays on record, and the wettest outright, so some trees are still far behind usual, almost a month behind 2020. Although this area is already one of the wettest places in the UK, wet enough to technically be classified as temperate rainforest. Betws-y-Coed is a rarity for the UK, a town located in the middle of a forested valley. The vast majority of buildings date back to at least the Victorian era. All signage is bilingual, by law! The woodland here was different to where I live. The moisture makes it lusher, most of the trees had thick moss on their trunks and the ground was blanketed in ferns. No idea what this anonymous ruined structure used to be, but given the fact that mature trees are growing out of the middle, it was obviously built a very long time ago. Wales is full of mysterious ruins like this.

Speagles84's Trip to New River Gorge National Park (Late May 2021)
Yes I know technically it was spring, but whatever
Grandview Overlook - 6 mile hike around the rim to various look out spots
Rhododenrens were in full bloom, lots of nice flauwrs
Baby Birds will be along soon
Sandstone Falls
Some views from our Airbnb - it was right on the New River and an eagles nest was on the property
Stopped on the main Bridge on the way out, drove down to the bottom where the original bridge was and ate lunch on rocks in the river

^^^ Where was that? Those trees are really bare. In the Eifel mountain range near Monschau at about 500-550m. I have never seen bare trees in June before ...budding is hardly worth it anymore lol. Though to be honest, beeches are in full leaf even up there, only certain species are that late.

The strawberries season started a little late this year, but we are starting to have quite a lot of them in the last couple of weeks

Lots of fractus clouds yesterday morning after some storms. This guy's obviously enjoying the weather. Pics from a bike ride today. It's poppies season! Lots of barges on this tributary of the Seine: Seine river This is apparently the Paris-London bike route. I can't see Big Ben tho, must be the trees. Wheat fields are fluorescent green this time of the year. Yuck lots of plant sperm there. A, huh, red bridge with some modernist stuff on it. Subtropique jungle! Postmodern square complete with more plant sperm.

May 30th. First day of meteorological summer (SMHI definition). Almost looks like September. June 2nd. Notice the linden tree that's almost completely bare. At least the aspen had gotten leaves by then. At least most of them. Very dense and tall group of white blossoming trees. The white flowers aren't as easy to discern in this image compared to IRL though for some reason. Seemed a lot more ubiquitously white to my eye. Lots of dandelions. Notice how the aspen in the back weren't all fully leafed out. My friend took a swim in the river. I didn't feel like it. It was only about 22'C and not fully calm. June 4th. Nice snow pile. That day I did go swimming. 24'C that day. No pics of the swimming, but this shot was really nice. Everything's finally fully leafed out now. The warmth lasted very long into the evening. This was 20:30, and it was still about 20'C and absolutely packed in the parks.

Went for a hike along the Old Jupiter-Indiantown Road in Hungryland Wildlife Management Area, which was historically the main east-west thoroughfare around 100 years ago. All of the marshes were bone dry when they should have several feet of water in them at this point. It was cloudy, around 83 F (28 C) with dews around 74 F (23 C). There was a decent breeze as well, so felt quite pleasant for a summer hike. There were tons of lubber grasshoppers, which were all very tame. Pineland heliotrope Water toothleaf Dried up marsh. This is what happens when you have less than half of normal rainfall for the year. Pond cypress and slash pine Florida ironweed Twisty pine trunk One of the deeper marshes still has a tiny bit of water in the middle

So bright at night. 01:10. Also felt really balmy with a slighly humid feel. A proper summer night. Apparently the airport was only 9.7'C at the time though. Definitely nowhere near as cold as that on my balcony.
