The beast is coming and is set to burst a snow bomb.
50CM of snow and -14c overnight low isn't asking for too much is it?

Heathrow is forecast to get down to -5c during the peak cold.
I'd be happy with a hot June and August with an average July. Our June record especially is pretty low compared to what it could be.

It must have happened in December 2010 and March 2013, but I didn't look - the river/pond down in the local park is pretty likely to freeze up in the next week or two. Would be interesting to see if it does and if anybody will dare to cross it on foot!

Cold Siberian air over much of Europe, but Longyearbyen is recording 4C and rain @ 17:00 today, and will be as mild tomorrow. Svalbard is the warmest place in Norway this afternoon, 4.3C in Svea (Svalbard).

Umeå has been incredibly stable as of late. The last 8 days have been sunny with about -10'C during the day and -20 to -25'C during the night apart from two nights with clouds. (Today is the 9th sunny day in a row)

Formula One teams are likely to cancel running in tomorrow's Barcelona test due to heavy overnight snowfall being forecast 20 km inland from the coast where the track is I guess this is the last time they'll try to have pre-season in Barcelona rather than the alternative venue in Bahrain to be honest...

(Today is the 9th sunny day in a row) And tomorrow and Thursday are also forecast to be blue dome according to SMHI, and Friday as well according to YR. That will mean 11 or 12 clear sky days in a row. That's actually very significant for any season let alone winter.

A real day to remember here for weather enthusiasts, our coldest day since 1995 with a high of -3.9C with squally snow showers on and off all day long and sunny spells as bright as winter sun can get The vast majority of the snowfall we get is at or slightly above freezing so it tends to be heavy and wet, this though has been pure powder snow drifting all over the place. It's actually been 27 years since we've had an easterly powerful enough to give widespread snow with temps as low as -5C so it's very unfamiliar conditions to me. I wouldn't want this all winter but fuck yeah let's have a spell like this every winter, I've been loving it!

Doesn't Eastern Australia (especially southeastern Australia) have Temperate broadleaf forests? I agree though I would think sydney northwards would be under ''Tropical and Subtropical forests'' ?? Our forests are mixed or rather transitional. Those in the Blue Mountains and hilly areas of Sydney in the North Shore are definitely 'temperate'. But greater western Sydney is just dry eucalyptus woodlands. To the north of Sydney, you're right, we have subtropical rainforests.
