14 cm so far in Bingley but there's so much drifting I don't know how they measure it properly, anywhere exposed to the wind can easily have 30-40 cm and a couple of metres away only 5 cm. We're 75 miles inland from the east coast but we're still getting absolutely constant lake-effect snow off the North Sea, it's so rare to get this and at -5C and in March that I can't get any work done at all today, too busy staring out of the window in admiration

Can't stop looking out the window whenever it snows. I'm at work at the moment and I always try and get a peek. Freezing though! But its worth it!! I think we've got around 5cm by now.

I almost wish I had such admiration for snow living where I do but I really don't. I am just waiting til it's all over! Not that is isn't interesting to see the snow. Just doesn't excite me.

already 45°F; felt very spring-like at 8 am at 38°F and sunny though still wearing a winter coat. We still got a freeze, 32°F late overnight. High of 58° forecast today, feels normal, but not going to last. Need a word for a winter or early spring day that doesn't get below freezing overnight: it's like the opposite of an ice day

You should really see what it's like further north, it's brutal if not dangerous in northern England with the winds, temps and blowing snow. Don't forget there's already 6-12" and extremely low temperatures below -5°C. So very severe indeed. It's worse than anything I've seen in my life, including December 2010 and March 2013.

The 17/18 winter was the coldest since 1986 in Katterjokk. In Sweden as a whole it was the coldest in five years.

# of times each month has been above average since 2010:
January: 5 of 9 (56%) February: 5 of 9 (56%) March: 3 of 8 (38%) April: 5 of 8 (63%) May: 8 of 8 (100%) June: 7 of 8 (88%) July: 7 of 8 (88%) August: 6 of 8 (75%) September: 7 of 8 (88%) October: 8 of 8 (100%) November: 4 of 8 (50%) December: 5 of 8 (63%)
Total: 70 of 98 (71%)
-Mostly summer that’s been above average -May and October have been above average every time! -June-August, September still mostly above average -November-January about half—fine with me since these are the months I care least about bein above average -Confirmation that we’ve had lots of cold Marches lately—4 out of 5 now. This is the month I most want to be above average and it’s been above average the least. And if that’s not bad enough, February and April aren’t doing much better. Last 2 February’s have been great, but before that not so much.
I’d make 0 above average July (I would care about July but I’m never here then) and December and all above average February-April.

^ For whatever reason, March continues to defy the warming trend and manages to suck ass every. Single. Time. What the fuck is it with March and below average temperatures here. Oh well. At least the recent summers have been excellent, not to mention those Octobers

I think this cold spell is worse than anything that I've seen to be honest. The temperatures here have been around 0c which has happened in the past but its the windchill its just brutal.

Same here, technically I saw the -8.8C high in 1987 and the 48 cm of snow in 1991 the last time we had this same Beast from the East setup, but I don't remember -6C and heavy snow and strong winds all at the same time plus seeing -4C highs in the West Country in March, it's like being transported to a whole different climate. 10/10 from a weather enthusiast's perspective though, I love it when the weather throws something at us that I never ever expected to see here

Snow and strong winds in the most unexpected place - Southwest England! Its crazy I've never experienced such low temperatures with high winds its a real novelty and it makes me think twice about my ''dream climate'' In fact I think I might prefer less severe winters now... Thank god this is only a coldspell.

saw big snow falling 15 minutes ago. Not sure what it is now, looks more rain-like. Cars and grass have a light coating of snow. Southeast Massachusetts forecast to get 3-4 inches of rain.

The 2002-2016's June mean is 0.5'C colder than 1961-1990 even though the average month is about 1.5'C warmer. October is about the same as 61-90.

surely the NWS meteorologists don't consider more snow the "worst case" scenario

I was shocked to discover how shit fuxtons summers actually are.

Seriously. What the actual fuck. Stockholm hasn't gone above freezing since the 17th of February and there's not a single >0'C temperature in the 14 day forecast. For them to have gone two weeks in the end of February is remarkable on its own, but to have another two weeks of consecutive ice days - in March? What the hell? I wonder what the record for February and March is. I guess they might've seen ice months before, but in January, not February/March.
I'm going there today, and a month ago I was expecting to arrive in time for spring, with birds chirping, 5-10'C sunny weather and flowers springing up. Not overcast, windy and snowy -10'C conditions. Wtf.
