According to Temis.nl which seems like the most "scientific" site for pure ozone forecasts and uv indices, southern England is only at 7-8 for UVI. Ozone's around 310 which is very low but not extreme. WO is also forecasting 7 UVI. Umeå however, is having some extreme UV indices and has had that for over a week now. Closer to the arctic, the ozone layer is a lot thicker on average. DU's of <300 are very rare here, especially on the first half of summer. To have 290 DU coalign with the solstice is creating some of the strongest UV indices ever for Umeå Generally UV indices tend to be higher during heatwaves because ozone's thinner closer to the equator, and when airmasses are coming from the south, the thinner ozone tends to follow. What does Umea usually see? Parts of the UK reached 8 yesterday and as high as 9 is forecast today: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53176013 350-400 ozone DU is more normal, with 4-4.5 UVI (by Temis' estimates)

Doesn't seem we will hit a record today. 16:45 already, so starts to become a bit late.
Record so far AFAIK is Chadby with 32.8C, which is their new June record, so congrats to them.

I found this gem. These two stations are just over 1km apart, with one in the smalltown (1800 pop) center, and the other by some fields. In July 2018 the "non-UHI" station recorded 25.5/10.0 while the "UHI" station recorded 26.3/12.7

They were -5.8/-15.5 vs -5.6/-13.3 and 21.2/8.2 vs 21.6/10.3 Over 2'C difference in lows in both winter and summer.

Some really extreme UV indices. Never seen such high values in Umeå before. At the end of the forecast, the ozone is still pretty thin, a little thinner than average, yet today the UV is 36% stronger!

I don't think 10.8 is possible here but I don't pay much attention to UV index. temis.nl/uvradiation/nrt/uvindex.php?lon=-89&lat=43

Does anybody know why one region of Canada is not included in a lot of weather warnings? Many of their weather warnings don't exist in Nunavik (far northern Quebec). I'm curious why that region is so special. It is very sparsely populated (12,000 people in 440,000 square km) but so are other parts of northern Canada. Nunavik is the only place in the country without these weather warnings. Flash Freeze Warning Fog Advisory Freezing Drizzle Advisory Freezing Rain Warning Rainfall Warning (Heavy downpour) Long Duration Rainfall Warning Severe Thunderstorm Watch/Warning Snowfall Warning Snow Squall Watch/Warning Tornado Watch/Warning Weather Advisory (generic) Weather Warning (generic) Winter Storm Watch/Warning Heat Warnings: Nunavik is one of two places without Heat Warnings. The other place is Nunavut. Source: www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/types-weather-forecasts-use/public/criteria-alerts.html

Major heatwave is here. 8 days forecast to hit 30C in a row, Pittsburgh could get 4-5 days above 90F - EASILY the biggest heatwave in a few years
Pray for me

I missed yesterday's lunar eclipse due to a bunch of clouds being right over the horizon for most of the event.

More and more this year, I have come to realize summers with 50% rain days is too much, at least in this climate or any climate that has a tendency toward cloudiness.
For here, I'd prefer 1/3 of days with rain in summer instead of 1/2.
But for my ideal climate, I'd say 40% would be the best.

On the 8th, not a single station in Sweden managed to hit 20.0'C. The last time that happened in a July month was 2015, and before that 1998. A rare occurance.

67 hours of sunshine so far this July, after the half way point.
The cloudiest July on record was 1965, with 129.9 hours. That might be under threat if this carries on.

I don't even want to know our averages and sunshine totals this month, surely they are catastrophic. I'm mostly indoors anyway lately, so idgaf.

June managed 175 hours of sun here, and that looks like it'll be the sunniest month of the summer.

If you have the logic of a Swedish with their seasonal threshold, this is when summer ended in Rome...
2011: November 18 2012: December 7 2013: November 26 2014: December 11 2015: November 28 2016: December 2 2017: December 4 2018: December 14 2019: December 13
