I think weather enthusiasts are more inclined to not care about inconveniences the weather creates, and more about experiencing something out of interest. So comparing to people in real life might be a bit misguided. I notice the opposite down here to be honest. I rarely come across someone who praises the heat here in summer or the storms. Even at the beach or pool most people bitch about the heat and the intense sun lol. In reality, most "normies" probably want 20-25 C highs and 10-15 C lows all the time. I'm more interested in weather cause I like spending lots of time outside; I find weather excitement interesting but don't care about it as much as most do here. Weather is a means for providing a better time outside not just for excitement by itself. Yea, you can bundles up if it's 20°F everyday, or just tough it out and sweat if it's 93°F with a dewpoint of 72°F; but I'm not going enjoy biking much in either, nor hike in the second one.

Yeah, I don't think I know anybody here that has been positive about the cold weather. I enjoyed seeing some snow, but the roads were horrendous, the schools closed, and it was just a general pain in the arse tbh. My 16 mile commute to work took me over 2 hours one morning last week. Absolute shite! The weather wasn't as bad as Buxton though thankfully! Warm spring days soon though Yeah, roll on spring. Funnily enough, my sister decided to have a winter wedding at a venue near Linton airbase in Yorkshire back in December, and the day we all had to go home from the hotel was the day it snowed. Awful slow journey home again with 1-2" of snow falling and apparently that was the first time it had snowed around there for years. Talk about typical timing. This is the first winter since 2013 that Linton has had snow accumulate on the ground. It's a bit of a poor place to be around York if you like snow, but there's places nearby that can get quite a bit. The roads around Linton are just full of potholes, so when it snows like it did last week, it's really hard to see them. The water table is really high too, so pretty any amount of rain creates huge puddles everywhere. I don't know why I work there as it pisses me off driving on such shit roads, ruining my wheels and suspension!

^^ Weren't you biking to work a couple years ago? My mom complained that it'll be cool when she arrives in Miami Saturday. She doesn't want "normie" weather lol.

Well yeah she's a vacationer, not really a resident normie lol Vacationers aren't happy unless it's 45 C with brilliant sunshine lol, I was referring to residents in particular with that comment.

Lol 71% above average since 2010....you would never guess that reading Tom's posts. You'd think it was like 90% below average.

For Binghamton
January: 5 of 9 February: 4 of 9 March: 3 of 8 April: 3 of 8 May: 7 of 8 June: 6 of 8 July: 5 of 8 August: 3 of 8 September: 6 of 8 October: 7 of 8 November: 4 of 8 December: 5 of 8
58 of 98 = 59%
For some reason Binghamton seems to be stuck in a below-average valley compared to Rochester, and probably NYC too

What are you using as a threshold in being above average? I used the normal >+0.5.

For Paris-Orly January: 6 of 9 February: 4 of 9 March: 5 of 8 April: 4 of 8 May: 3 of 8 June: 5 of 8 July: 6 of 8 August: 4 of 8 September: 4 of 8 October: 5 of 8 November: 5 of 8 December: 6 of 8 57 of 98 = 58% Surprisingly it doesn't match the fear-mongering rhetoric about the so-called NE USA cooling. Ariete I don't use any threshold and assume others do the same, or at least steelernation does. No way all the Mays and Octobers have been mroe than 0.5°C above average there. Well yeah she's a vacationer, not really a resident normie lol Vacationers aren't happy unless it's 45 C with brilliant sunshine lol, I was referring to residents in particular with that comment. Course.

For NYC (LaGuardia Airport):
January - 56% (5 of 9) February- 56% (5 of 9) March - 38% (3 of 8) April - 88% (7 of 8) [2 months exactly average] May - 100% (8 of 8) June - 88% (7 of 8) July - 100% (8 of 8) [1 month exactly average] August - 50% (4 of 8) September - 88% (7 of 8) October - 88% (7 of 8) [1 month a mere -0.1°F] November - 50% (4 of 8) December - 88% (7 of 8)
72 of 98 months (73%) have been average to above average.
Looks more impressive than reality, tbh. Some months have royally sucked. We’ve spent a few Mays under an Omega block pattern, which gives us nonstop gloomy cool days and mild foggy nights, we normally get a couple of nice/hot days towards the end of the month tipping the scale towards above normal. March has generally been abysmal, and August honestly hasn’t felt as bad as the data suggests.

I think the "fearmongering" is mostly from the November 2013-March 2015 period, which in fact was very very very very very cold. In LGA for example, 2014 was the 2nd coldest year of the century (after 2003), and the fact that it was followed by a record cold January-March period didn't help. Also during this timespan it felt like we were literally the only spot in the entire world that was below average, which made it feel even worse

I use -0.5C to +0.5C as 'average' like the FMI does.

April and May is in fact a bit deceiving. Past few years we have gotten a really cloudy and rainy pattern these months, which leads to really cold highs, but the average lows stay normal, so it doesn't create huge anomalies. All you need is a tiny heatwave, and suddenly the month is above average
I'd equate it to a football team that parks the bus and plays horribly the entire match, but gets a lucky deflection in stoppage time and wins 1-0. That's what May 2016 was like

For here:
January: 44% (4 of 9) February: 67% (6 of 9) March: 75% (6 of 8) April: 100% (8 of 8) May: 50% (4 of 8) June: 50% (4 of 8) July: 75% (6 of 8) August: 88% (7 of 8) September: 50% (4 of 8) October: 63% (5 of 8) November: 63% (5 of 8) December: 88% (7 of 8)
Total: 66/98 or 67.3% of months. As you can see, December, August and April have all been shithouses in recent years. Last below average April was 2005!
