Hereβs the yearly max/min for Fort Collins:
1901-1930: max: 95 min: -21 1911-1940: max: 96 min: -20 1921-1950: max: 96 min: -21 1931-1960: max: 96 min: -20 1941-1970: max: 96 min: -19 1951-1980: max: 97 min: -16 1961-1990: max: 97 min: -14 1971-2000: max: 97 min: -11 1981-2010: max: 98 min: -10 1991-2020: max: 98 min: -8
Maxes have warmed slightly but mind have warmed drastically, I think largely due to UHI as the population has quadrupled since 1970. The last -20 f was in 1990, while it happened most years for much of the por.

The difference between now and 1901-1960 is astronomical.

Yeah we used to get extreme radiational cooling but the UHI has eliminated the potential for very cold nights. Cold snaps also used to be stronger in general, mean low max was 7 for 1901-1960, now itβs 12 so that accounts for some of the warming.

Nice little heatwave but it looks like the rest of July is going to be cold and gay with super extreme amounts of nuclear winter style strato-cum-ulus every day, but hey ho payback weather and and all that.

Oh that summer was so annoying. Like I don't usually mind some variation, but even that was too much for me. Also a lot of days had smoke haze, making our air quality bad.

Average coldest maxes by 30-year normals since 1901:
1901-1930: -8 F (-22.2 C) 1911-1940: -8 F (-22.2 C) 1921-1950: -7 F (-21.7 C) 1931-1960: -6 F (-21.1 C) 1941-1970: -7 F (-21.7 C) 1951-1980: -8 F (-22.2 C) 1961-1990: -9 F (-22.8 C) 1971-2000: -8 F (-22.2 C) 1981-2010: -6 F (-21.1 C) 1991-2020: -7 F (-21.7 C)

High mins are boring, donβt get interesting lows here, basically increased from 63 to 67.

Where Is Australia's Wettest Capital City? ( source: weatherzone ) Darwin is known for frequent and heavy rain during its wet season and Brisbane often cops huge downfalls during summer thunderstorms. But which Aussie capital city is the wettest in the country? We can look at three different measures of rainfall to compare the Aussie capitals: Average cumulative annual rainfall Average number of rain days per year Highest annual rainfall on record Average cumulative annual rainfall This is probably the most well-known rainfall statistic - how much rain falls, on average, during an entire year. Darwin is by far the wettest capital city in Australia by this measure, with an annual average of 1723.8 mm. This is half a metre higher than second-placed Sydney, which has an annual average of 1213.4 mm. Here is the long-term average rainfall from each Australian capital city. Average number of rain days per year While Darwin tops the list for total average annual rainfall, it is also one of Australia's driest capitals in terms of rain days per year. The nations rainiest cities are in southeastern Australia, where Hobart and Melbourne both average more than 150 days of rain per year. By contrast, Perth and Canberra only just get over 100 rain days in an average year. Interestingly, Hobart is Australiaβs 2nd driest capital city based on average rainfall, but the countryβs rainiest city based on rain days. Highest annual rainfall on record Whan looking at rainfall extremes, the northern-most capital cities take the cake. Darwinβs annual record of 2776.6 mm is, once again, more than half a metre higher than second-placed Brisbane on 2242.4 mm. Melbourne and Adelaide are the only two capitals that are yet to see one metre of rain during a single year. And while Sydneyβs record of 2194 mm has stood since 1950, it may be challenged this year.

Ever since these netweather numpties started going on about "drought" it's rained every single day for more than a week here. It looked like being a dry July but yet more of this bullfuck insipid frontal poo has to arrive, unannounced and fuck it all up.

Usually winter is the rainy season here, with dry and extremely hot summers. But today we got 74.9 mm of rain because of an easterly wave and the max temp didn't exceed 27Β°C. It's the lowest summer max temp ever recorded and the wettest July ever recorded. Today's morning I counted over 150 lightning strikes.

Fuck, that's 3 C colder than your average LOW for this time of year, and that's your annual average rainfall in one day, in the DRY season no less. Wow!

Already August and we have literally had one day all year with thunder - just one solitary rumble at that. I think this is the worst year for thunder I can remember.

Good news - the "heatwave" this week has been downgraded ever so slightly for my location. No 30 degrees any more. That BS can stay in the tropics where it belongs.
It's just a shame the rubbish can't disappear from the south too and they get rain instead. It's tinder dry down there and there'll be more houses going up in flames this week.
