What a comfortable start to July. No 20°C, and last night went down to 9.6°C. Great weather. Long may it continue.

This is pretty absurd. June has been record warm somewhere in Sweden for 6 years in a row now. 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 have all been the warmest June month at atleast one long-running station. In many places June has been the warmest month of the year in the last few years. This is especially interesting because June hasn't really seen any change in temperature between 1931-1960, 1961-1990 or 1991-2020. So after not seeing any warming in the last 60 years, suddenly we have 6 record breaking june months in a row.

Norrköping is one of the places with the most consistency in warm Junes lately. Their all time record before these last 6 years was 17.7'C, then came these years: 2018: 17.5'C 2019: 18.1'C 2020: 17.9'C 2021: 18.8'C 2022: 17.5'C 2023: 18.1'C These 6 years averaged more than the previous record.

I was reading up on foehn winds in Australia and discovered some interesting effects. I guess there's a medical reason linking these winds with your mental state, but it's just hard to imagine many people wanting to off themselves on a warm sunny Sydney day.

Funny that Christchurch In New Zealand gets a similar wind. As the hits the west coast of the South Island bringing rain it travels over the Alps and across the plains of Canterbury gaining momentum and heat and then blows hot strong air into Christchurch. You could literally see it coming with an Arch in the Sky. The temperatures would raise by about 5-8°C in a short period. The wing would come through and It would be relentless. It would dry you out aswell and it just made you generally grumpy if one were exposed to it for so long which we were working outside. I seen plenty of lads just go home because of it. I hated it

Is Bodö, Norway, above the Arctic Circle subarctic? No, because it has a mean temp above -3C in the coldest month. Is it subpolar oceanic? No, because it has 4 months above 10C. Therefore Bodö is temperate oceanic. There is no need to debat, its oceanic indice is 295322 ! Clearly Bodö has the same climate as for example Bordeaux.

There is a station in Lofoten IIRC, even further north, which manages to achieve cfb in 1991-2020 even with the 0'C criterion.

A wet and unsettled month in the UK. Jetstream stuck to our south or over us at times, with low after low swinging through. As such, we are already at 145% of the entire month of July's average rainfall with a lot more to come. The much lower than normal temps have been comfortable though.

Well, well, well. I am utterly surprised, even if I must say so myself, that the second half of Juluary has sunk to the depths it has; the average maximum temperature sinking like a lawn-dart into the depths of the abyss by the day after what was surmised to be a mere "blip" of low pressure in the first week of the month.
My average maximum temperature now stands at: 19.6°C. Yes, you heard it right, a good 2°C below average, and getting lower and lower. So we are now dead set for the coldest and wettest July since the horror that was 2012. Infact, this month might well end up worse than that. Worst since 2007? Possibly!
I have indeed not minded so much the below average temperatures, as there's been no sweating or sleepless nights, indeed the good quality of sleep has been one of few mercies from this autistic weather pattern indeed. But the rain that has fallen so frequently has been the biggest fly in the pie. Never has it been persistent but more unpredictable, often not predicted at all, such as yesterday when the Met Orifice said dry after 11AM, which was not to be, as shower after shower rattled through my vicinity til 4.
Now as we look into the final 10 days of Juluary we see no fewer than 4 low pressure areas slide and spin their way down to the UK in the most obedient type of manner, a "pass the baton!" of predictable order to see us into August which looks to follow suit initially, at least.

Well, well, well, well, well or not so well as this fuckfest of a month is turning out to be; not only is the second half far worse than the first (!), but all of the rain is assburgery frontal fuckshittery and no convection for goodness sake! What a collapse in high summer! I must get on the telephone to the government and have them do something about it. They can keep the temperatures the same mind you, I just want a cessation of the frontal rubbish please! More thunderstorms please!

The fact that East London, A Coruña, Lerwick, Bogotá and Bödo are all classified as the same climate type while Punta Arenas and Ushuaia are not is quite odd innit.

It is good that there is less than a week of this stupid month left, always seem like some sort of record is being broken these days. The "hottest" June (nah, didn't feel like it at all here anyway), followed immediately by the wettest July on record. Couldn't make it up could you? Add that to the plethora of other record wet summer months all within the last 20 years. Some were the dullest too. I do like the cooler temperature though, that must be said. However, where I live you either get cold and wet or warm and sunny in summer, there is no inbetween.
