I can’t wait for tomorrow so I can continue to be shocked and surprised by the Pee En Double Yoo heat wave as it moves onto the east side of the Cascades, while sitting here at home where it’ll only be 96.
Seriously, whenever I think “this is as insane as it gets” this heat wave pulls out something even more insane.

at around 6:15 pacific time yesterday; coast chilly, inland west of cascades very hot. you can see the wind shift from the cool coast to hot inland

Oregon rivers are below average, Washington outside snowmelt around average while mountain fed ones close to record levels for this time of year

EC has upgraded Lytton's forecast high to 118°F; 120°F is certainly possible! Not impossible for Ashcroft either (assuming a lack of haze/smoke)

EC has upgraded Lytton's forecast high to 118°F; 120°F is certainly possible! ... Not impossible for Ashcroft either (assuming a lack of haze/smoke) Given that the high has shifted a bit and is now centered over the BC/WA/ID triple point keep your eyes also on Osoyoos--wouldn't be surprised to see 46°C there today.

Reading these absurd new record stats gives me a question why the phenomenon called heat dome became more commonplace, especially in recent years with breaking records by huge margin: started from May 2019 in Hokkaido, June 2019 in southern France, July 2019 in Western Europe, and the ongoing event of June 2021 in the PNW... where's next?

Someone from British Columbia posted this on another forum, and I'm reposting it here because I thought it was funny.

Ironically YVR may record their highest temp of this event, despite yesterday being the warmest day everywhere else. Pretty common theme at that station, where winds finally shift offshore one day after temps peak.
Since 850mb temps are still around 28c across the region today, it's entirely possible YVR at least challenges the all time record of 34.4c, set back in July 2009.

I'd expect valley locales further SE like Trail or Castlegar to see temps peak today as well.

Omak airport, 60km south of, and 150m higher than Osoyoos, recorded 43.0'C at 11.55 local time, an hour ago. Wonder what Osoyoos will manage
