boring mountains, you should do a more exciting 14er: cdweather.boards.net/post/190087more seriously: Beautiful photos and nice, bulky mountains. above treeline looks like a boulder slog. looks prettier with the early morning light, rarely get out that early, sometimes do sunset instead. you did 3500' of elevation gain in high altitude in 2 hours?! That's really fast, especially with the boulders. It took me 4.5 hours to climb the 5200 feet from Paradise to Camp Muir on Rainier, maybe could have done it in 4 hours with less stops. There's a shuttle running at the trailhead before sunrise? Lol. I’ve heard the knife edge on Capitol peak isn’t that bad, mostly just scary. Most people say the hardest part is the scrambling/climbing that comes after it. Was really pretty with the sunrise. Beautiful views anyway but the sunrise lightning was very nice. Not really boulders on this one, didn’t need my hands at all. Mostly walking on talus and there were steps cut out for bigger rocks. Took a bit under an hour longer each way than flat terrain would’ve. I didn’t take any >5 minute breaks so that made it faster. The first shuttle leaves Breckinridge at 5 AM, most people climb 14ers very early so the shuttle accommodates that. how much sleep did you have before? sounds tiring to wake up so early

how much sleep did you have before? sounds tiring to wake up so early Went to bed at 9, so by the time I fell asleep maybe 3 hours. I was surprisingly not too sleepy, probably since I was active, but I did nap for a few hours when I got back.

from a weeks ago. Near Stowe, Vermont. Kinda muggy day (dews in the mid 60s) with lots of cloud buildup and finally a big thunderstorm just after sunset. Looking at Camel's Hump in the distance these would look so much better with fall colors

Or is your usual bedtime not that much later than 9 pm?

Few cloud pics from train windows lol. Evening storm between Paris and Nantes (western France): Storm clouds between Nantes and Paris: Rainbow moving at 300 km/h thru the countryside: Shitty pic of a wall cloud in the southern suburbs of Paris a couple weeks later: these would look so much better with fall colors
Oh looks like a dead spruce grove to the right. Are sights like this one common there, or just an isolated dead grove?

The leaves are really coming off now! We had a fairly windy day or two recently which always greatly accelerates the process. At this point we're about one more very windy day and one hard freeze away from everything entering that pre-winter phase where it's all dead but not yet snowy. Despite that it was fairly warm this evening, 22C when I went on this walk.

Some photos from Venice in the morning & afternoon of September 17th—temperatures were in the mid-upper 70s F at the time. Some miscellaneous waterway pics, most from the water taxi
