Went to the arboretum with a classmate last Saturday (25th). Fall colors are noticably early compared to normal, due to the coldest september in a dozen years. Already started to peak on the 25th (Still a little more on the green side than bare side though)

And on Wednesday (30th of September) I took a trip down memory lane with yet another med student. Took her to the "Tavelsjö mountain". And on this day, in Tavelsjö, the fall colors were peaking.

from a ride from Montpeiler to Shelburne, NH almost to the Maine border a month ago. Mostly followed a bike route already designed, signed and/or cue sheets off the internet. combination, gravel jeep roads, bike paths, rural backroads and busy state roads. nicest spot

I went cycling in the evening. The weather was almost clear, although the day was quite cloudy.

bike ride into the Berkshires including up Mount Greylock a few days ago. Chilliest morning of the season, around 40°F depending on exact location. Deerfield River earlier on in the ride at the top of the hill doesn't the sky look like it's a cold morning? natural bridge state park from the top of Greylock summit road looking west to the Taconics along the NY border down the mountain look back at Greylock finally a tree with red leaves washout probably from one of the summer storms knocked out a bridge and closed this road. also done, full of angry signs not to enter including a security camera. I didn't have time to go back down a long hill and then back up so I ignored the warnings; clear no one was there and what would they do with a security photo of me?! higher elevation lakes and marshes (think this was at 1800 feet) had sorta decent color change evening light in Plainfield, MA

The more pines, bigger mountains and less development makes a big difference.

Awesome shots out of coastal LA as rare true convective thunderstorms hit this afternoon. Wasn't dry lightning either, so the bit of rain should be beneficial, as October is generally the peak of wildfire season and dominated by hot, dry Santa Ana winds. Meanwhile boring here on the East Coast with featureless slate grey skies and scattered showers.
Just another day in Key Biscayne Marina del Rey

West coast is becoming more like an east coast climate, and the east is becoming more like a boring west coast climate.

And yes, we were incredibly lucky, both with our timing of the excursion as well as with this year's foliage. Don't know if I've ever seen foliage this good before in Sweden. Incredibly rapid foliage development that peaked stronger than I've ever seen before, but now just a week later it's already starting to become mostly bare.

Overview of the speed of this year's foliage transition: 17th of September: barely noticable amounts of fall colors. 20th of September: still nothing significant. 25th of September (the same day I went to the arboretum/rapdis): a marked change in scenery with unmistakable fall foliage pretty much everywhere you look; outside the city by the arboretum the colors were almost in full peak. 28th of September (the day before the Tavelsjö photos): A noticable change from the three days before. 1st of October: Drastic difference. Definitely towards the end of the peak, with some trees already starting to get more muted foliage. And here's today, the 5th of October. The prettiest part of the season is definitely passed. While there is green foliage left on some trees and some areas, there are also a noticeable amount of bare or nearly-bare trees. So to recap, this image of the same view was only taken two weeks ago!

High/low of 65/61 under slate grey featureless overcast with easterly wind. I don't mind this weather now that it is October.
Wonderful shot of the city. Pretty high visibility for such a cloudy day.

Pics from my long walk on Sunday, October 3rd. Temps were cool to mild, ranging from about 50 F (10 C) at the beginning of the hike to 64 F (17.8 C) at the end, beautiful day for a walk. Beginning of the trail still mostly green:

A few shots from my Vancouver trip this past weekend. It was so nice to see green grass and have moisture in the air again!

In contrast to those lush Vancouver photos, here are a few recent ones from Saskatoon where things are looking considerably more dead...
