Early stages of transition. Random woodland spam. They show why birch is so good for reforestation. Most of those trees are no older than I am, but they're already huge, and they've created the conditions and microclimate for a proper woodland environment to form. Now young trees from other species are sprouting up.

Album for some of my pics from my trip to Crimea, which ended up being Sep 21โ26. Was chilly the entire time I was thereโwith highs mainly in the upper 50s to the 60s F. Went to the Genoese fortress near Balaklava. Cool clifftop views there (Sep 22nd)

Not Ailanthus. Definitely sumac, likely Rhus typhina. Growth habit fits it perfectly and has entire leaflet margins unlike Ailanthus. You can also see a few heads of fruit in the background of the first photo.

Revisited the forest around Monte Cavo Thu afternoon. Temp was in the mid-upper 50s F at the time there at the altitude. No fall foliage barring a few isolated drought-stressed trees.

Put all your photos or all but one in a spoiler Benfxmth , now the whole page wonโt load. Anyway, went for a hike with my brother today up in the Indian Peaks wilderness, near Nederland. Distance: 9.1 miles Time: 4 hours Trailhead elevation: 10,480โ Max elevation: 11,320โ Temp was 34 at the trailhead both when we started and finished, it snowed most of the route and was probably in the low 30s the whole time. < Creek a little after the trailhead, looks quite wintry: It was snowing pretty heavily, so all the peaks were pretty socked in except for a faint outline for the first hour. Finally clearing upโnice ridge above a small lake: The destination was blue lake at 11,300โ. The scene there was something out of Greenland: But on the way down the sun came out! Went down to the trailhead (5.4 miles total), hiked down the road a bit and then went up another trail. Nice meadow: This second trail looped around a lake with peaks occasionally peaking through the clouds. Graupel started falling toward the end, kinda stung to be hit by. Moose! Aspens on the drive back to Nederland. You do not beat the Aspen for fall colors. < > > [/spoiler]

Delaplane Preserve. Weather was 81 F (27 C) and mostly sunny. Evening light shining on the slash pines I've always thought poison ivy was a beautiful and underrated plant. South Fork of the St. Lucie River Mangrovevine ( Rhabdadenia biflora) Dahoon holly ( Ilex cassine) More pines Lindenleaf rosemallow ( Hibiscus furcellatus) Saltbush ( Baccharis halimifolia)

Towards the end of last week was rather warm, a couple of days over 20C, with breaks of sunshine. Splendid conditions, to have a stroll

Mostly green in Auckland now. Seems to be getting colder if anything though, highest temp so far this spring was 21.1C over a month ago.
