Decided to take the cable car from Rifugio Sapienza, and then hiked up to ~8,500 ft AMSL in Mt. Etna—albeit still well below the summit this afternoon. Looks oddly spectacular with a combination of cloudiness, snow patches and graupel and basalt rock. Heard a few rumbles of thunder as well. Edit: if you think the following pics are black & white, they're not. It's actually looked like that out.

Quite the defined double rainbow during a decaying thundershower—east of Lentini. Not the best pic quality as they were taken while driving.

Caught this odd circular cloud formation during yesterday's sunrise at the local high school's webcam. Anyone know what would cause this? You can see it on time lapse here Interesting, just looks like a number 9

Friend sent me this pic from an airplane over the LI Sound with coastal CT in the background. Good way to see that there has been little to no change in terms of fall foliage so far, after a warmer than average first half of October. That should change with the cool autumnal airmass coming in.

A few shots from yesterday afternoon's walk, which was probably my last warm walk of the year. It was around 23C at the time these photos were taken, with barely any wind at all and the gentle late afternoon sun... just perfect

Went for a hike in Rocky Mountain NP yesterday. Distance: 5.4 miles Time: 3 hours Trailhead elevation: 8,490’ Maximum elevation: 9,390’ Weather was sunny with temps in the high 40s, very nice. Saw some big horn sheep in the Big Thompson Canyon on the way and a moose driving to the trailhead, no pics of either unfortunately. Did see this moose though: Walked right down the trail so we had to duck off below, was only like 15-20 feet away. Trail was mostly forested but went along a pretty creek < Gap in the trees: Ouzel falls, the destination of the hike: Nice views of Longs peak on the drive back to Estes Park: < >

Still pretty green here. Taken this morning, which was unseasonably warm with a 15°C+ low. 24°C today as well. Some color here and there tho

Not much to report on tbh, been cloudier and still not much in the way of tree action. The colour changes will likely peak in early November this year. I got the sense that this gentleman wasn't particularly enthusiastic about being in my photo album:

from Franconia Ridge, whose high point, Mount Lafayette, has perhaps the biggest rise in 1.5 miles of any mountain in the eastern US. Photos from a little over 2 weeks ago. Will post the photos on the trail to the ridge in another post. great undercast the whole way up
