This might be the earliest start to the permanent snow cover in many years, with the start of this current snow cover being the 23rd November I believe. There's about 25 cm of snow, and while the forecast starts getting mild in a week from now, 25cm of snow isn't very likely to melt so late in the season. It's possible and has happened before, quite recently so even, but it's more likely a new snowy period will arrive before the 25cm melts completely.
I can't remember the last time there wasn't any bare ground during a single day in either December or January, so it must've been at least 7 years ago (although I could be forgetting some year)
Edit: 2017 seems to have started its permanent snow cover in mid-November actually. I lived in Tavelsjรถ that year so it makes sense that I would've forgot. However, Umeรฅ's snow station is pretty inconsistent with lots of gaps so it's possible that the snow melted away in certain bigger fields in Umeรฅ sometime during December that year (there were periods that month where the snow cover in the region thinned quite a bit). Before then, 2010 is the last time both December/Jan were covered completely.

Not a flake here yet this winter. The last time we made it this late without a trace of snow was 2017.

December 1-25 has been in a snow drought for the last 4 years. 2017 was the last time that more than 0.4" / 1cm fell in a day in that period, and the last time a snow depth greater than a trace was reported. The biggest snowfall that month was still only 1.2" / 3cm. 2016 was the last snowy December.
I made a table of snowfall since 2010. December is split into 1st-25th and 26th-31st. Numbers in Bold are where the period is more snowy than the 1st-25th. The past few years it seems like it snows within a few days after Christmas. It's only a few years so it's not an actual significant trend.
The monthly totals are from monthly normals. The bottom two are the daily normals which I only found rounded to the nearest 0.1". But based on those December 1-25 averages 0.32" a day and 26-31 averages 0.38", close to the same value. As someone who likes snow cover in December, it's not a good trend. The last white Christmas was 2017, also the last colder than average December. That's using the 1991-2020 average of 29.5F. The previous 30-year period of 1961-1990 was 24.4 and only 1 of these years was colder than that (2013). Back-loaded winters seem to be getting more common.
