btw a small group on tropical cultivations in Greece has caught wind of the ongoing discussion on cocos possibly surviving in Kastellorizo, Rhodes, Kasos and south Karpathos and I am learning that in April they will start efforts to cultivate cocos. Let's see how it goes!

Unprotected cocos barely survive winters here, and a strong cold shamal wind can kill them.

But the most common killer here is summer heat. I know some people who made their coconuts survive January and remain healthy, but then June and July came and killed them.

This applies to most tropical plants here. Summer is what commonly kills them not winter.
