Yes, I can see that. I haven't been paying attention to Scandinavian weather. If the authorities give the green light to say it's safe to walk on the river ice, I will definitely do that and take some pictures. As I said, it might be the first time since 2012.

those limits are excessive. 3-4cm is enough to walk on.

Ok, no need to be snappy. I just found it funny that you couldn't manage to get up for a 7:20am sunrise. Also, of interest my sunrise is after 7:30am, still pitch black at 7am. Pretty significantly earlier than yours then even at 64N. And I was snappy because there were quite a lot of different things that I said in the post, so your "lol." was pretty vague. Sorry, I will make more of an effort to praise you in future.

those limits are excessive. 3-4cm is enough to walk on. Those ice skaters skate on 2cm ice

We went to my GF's Grandpa's and tried out their sauna. I can confidently say I've never been in a sauna with this nice a view. They also had a bubble pool surrounded by the view, as well as this sun roof. I don't think I've ever had a view as nice as this over Umeå. After I had been in the sauna for a little over half an hour at a 45°C dewpoint, I jumped into the snow and then started taking photos of the city. Full res images:

Here there are a couple of snow pictures. This winter has been really weird, the coldest and snowiest periods were at the really beginning and the really end of the winter season, while the central part of the season has been warmer than usual and really rainy. Well, this is Turin yesterday morning. It snowed for only one hour, which completely matched with my travel from the train station and my work place. I have to take a tram for about 25 min and then to walk for about 1 Km so, even if I had an umbrella, when I arrived at in my office I was half-covered with wet snow. These pictures instead are taken this morning around my home. It is too warm for a real snowfall, it is just really wet snow that will probably turn into rain in the next few hours, but the precipitation is intense enough for having some accumulation. More than snow itself this time the weather forecast is quite worrisome: just at the end of this snowfall a serious cold wave should reach us and risks to turn all this wet snow / rain into a patch of ice.

Epic nightfall on the pier in -5°C temperatures yesterday evening. The bay froze over for the most part, although the ice is way too thin to be a safe one. It's beautiful to be completely dependent on snow for the light and walking "on the sea"

5 to 10 centimetres maybe. It's still quite cracked and at some places on Wednesday I could see water. But as the ice-breakers are being used, it must be mostly 5 cm or more. Difficult to say. A week of this severe cold and you can walk on the river ice. Would be the first time since 2012. Nyköpingsån never freezes over properly except in the harbour area because of the strong streams and artificial waterfalls, is there a similar issue with Turku's river?

-29.5'C in Tavelsjö last night. I decided to see how cold or warm the porch would be. Even though it was -16'C at the closest station 3km away, and my thermometer showed -15'C, it warm enough to be comfortable without a shirt on the porch. The thermometer shows only -4'C in the shade on the porch because the surroundings get heated by the sun. Here's the view from the porch. You can see me reflected off the window.

can you tell which it is? The focal length seemed to be consistantly pretty short, shorter than any (realistic) prime lens for the D7200. Had it been a normal zoom lens, you probably would've shot more in the middle zooms. Also, the fact that one picture is shot vertically could indicate a phone image. (Also the fact that you refered to it ad "a zoom image" makes me think it's either 1x zoom or 2x zoom that are the option). And the highlights are retained very well compared to the shadow brightness indicating HDR (dslrs tend to have skies close to white unless you pull the highlights down 100%). yes, you're right. Haven't posted with my SLR since early November or so. Haven't felt motivated to do more than take photos when my phone is in the pocket. But yea, the camera is a huge improvement over my old phone; feel like I'm letting my real camera go to waste. Neither expected I'd get a new phone nor how good it'd be vs an SLR. The on-phone photo editing software works well, too. Still some advantages of an SLR but I'm not going to carry all the time with me.

Haha, that's great that you're happy with your new phone, and too bad your DSLR is collecting dust just like mine is. Especially point and shoots are starting to lose their value now.

A few photos from my trip to Singapore and Koh Lipe (Thailand) from November. Fucking epic place \ That nighttime city shot is awesome. Love the lighting.

Yesterday afternoon. Around 80F with dewpoint in the mid 60's. Pretty spring-like. Windy with a couple of showers. Looks pretty green there. When was your last frost/freeze?
