November 2024 Week 1; the first prolonged high pressure period of 2024. The high pressure system has trapped moisture/inversion leading to consistent overcast, with drizzle at times, and a very narrow diurnal range. This resulted in the most boring single week in my 18 years of weather records.

Severe Heatwave: Brisbane's Warmest November Night in 16 Years ( Source: Weatherwatch ) As a severe heatwave continues across eastern Australia, despite the Sunshine State's capital 'only' reaching 30.7C yesterday (2.4C above average), a combination of high humidity and cloud cover kept Brisbane very warm. The minimum of 24.4C was 5.6C above the November average of 18.8C and makes this the warmest night since November 2008 when a low of 24.5C was recorded. Temperatures are expected to ease slightly next week, though they should remain above average, with high humidity levels continuing to create uncomfortable conditions. Isolated showers and storms may also develop, though the outlook remains complex. As the heatwave continues, stay hydrated and keep an eye on weather updates to manage the ongoing humidity.

First significant snowfall of the season last night. Only 0.8” (2 cm) reported but I suspect the total was higher after 7 PM. Had heavy snow in the afternoon although not a lot settled. Heavier round in the evening. All melted this morning though. Was above freezing so the snow was heavier that the accumulation made it seem
Places in southern Colorado and New Mexico got >30”. Too far north here to get much from the storm

Australia enduring heatwave and snow ( source: Weatherzone ) Sunday began with a great contrast in minimum temperatures. While the south of the country wakes up with temperatures below 10°C (indicated in dark blue on the map below), the northern half records a minimum temperature in the high 20s (in red on the map). ^^Image: Satellite (Himawari) visible true colour with temperatures at 7:45AEDT on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Telfer (WA), in the interior of Pilbara, recorded a minimum of 31.4°C in the early hours of the morning. It was the highest minimum temperature in the country today, almost 8°C above the average for November in the region. In kunanyi/Mount Wellington (Tas), the minimum recorded was just -0.8°C. Additionally, at higher points in Tasmania, in the highlands of Tasmania, there are signs of snow this morning. These extreme conditions between the north and south occur because Heatwave conditions are spreading across the north of Western Australia, Northern Territory, and north-central Queensland. On the order hand, cooler southerly winds leave the beginning of Sunday with temperatures below average in Tasmania, Victoria, southeast South Australia, and southwest Western Australia. ^^Image: Heatwave severity in the last three days starting on Friday, November 8, 2024. Looking ahead, this difference is expected to continue with a severe heatwave persisting in the north of the country, not cooling below 30°C at night in some inland areas. Meanwhile, temperatures below 10°C are expected, especially in southeast New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory (including Canberra), Victoria, and Tasmania (including Hobart). ^^mage: Forecast minimum temperature on Monday, November 11, 2024, according to the ECMWF-HRES model. 🐪 For the first time on record, the Al-Jawf region in Saudi Arabia experienced a historic snowfall, transforming the desert landscape. This unprecedented event was preceded by intense rain and hail, which, combined with the rare convergence of moisture-laden air from the Arabian Sea and the area's arid climate, resulted in the extraordinary snow cover. The desert's sand dunes, typically known for their golden color, were momentarily covered in a dazzling layer of snow, presenting a remarkable winter scene. ( source: Live Storm Chasers )

It isn't. Widespread record maxima there, I'm thinking it was a foehn effect on top of an anomalously warm airmass

"I'm thinking it was a foehn effect on top of an anomalously warm airmass" >> that's what the link said too. A good recipe for record temps. November is a month that can get some raw windy days. So here are two high wind events I noticed this week.
First, a storm blew through Lake Superior yesterday morning with some locations on land getting 40-50 mph wind gusts. Stannard Rock is a lighthouse in the middle of the lake, and it saw even higher winds. 62mph gusting to 73 (100 with gusts of 117kph) just before noon on the 11th.
Air temp F- Dew - RH - Wind Chill - Wind mph - Pressure
I noticed it was windy in another spot, Nakiska Ridgetop station near the tree line in Alberta. Are these wind gusts for real? It's getting 100kph gusts every other day. This is a station on Environment Canada, so I think it's legitimate, but I don't know much about mountains in Alberta to know if it's possible or fake data.

First half of November and Marble Bar is running at record levels for max temps in November. Mind you the older ( now closed site ) also averaged 43.8c for all of November 1990. Marble Bar heat ramps up some in late Nov/Dec, so be interesting to see if the town can set a new heat record in 2024.

Check out Longreach ... running +3.4c for mins and an astounding +5.3c for max temps ! These are huge anomalies...! The now closed Post Office site has a record Nov mean max of 39.1c in 1915 and the Airport site a record Nov mean max of 39.7c in 2014 The Airport running at 41.6c for the first half of November ! So I'm not scientifically minded per se... as in the language of 'climate change' I'm not au fait with... but sure as hell I understand data and figures.... And it appears to me there has been a spike in temp means in Northern Australia in the last 10 years or so...
