It's rare for much of NZ to get consecutive 30C days -it's been 45 years since it happened here. I remember a hot spell in Invercargill in the mid 1990s and people certainly made the most of it -Invercargill has a great drive on beach, and there would have been over a thousand cars on one day. The hotspell coincided with epic swell and offshore winds, and still rates as one of my most memorable week of surf. Some towns inland of Nelson have recorded 10+ consecutive 30C+ days Tapawera would see it every summer I would think, and Murchison had an 18 day period averaging a 33C high, in 2005. I did a job at Sunday Creek, two summers ago, and the whole week was high 20s and low 30s C, and that was in March. Different on the coast here though, where a sea breeze is always ready to pounce.

103 mm of rain here in the last 17 hours - sunny and humid now, but a forecast for thunder later in the afternoon.
A big rainmaker headed this way early next week.

15mm somehow fell last night up until 9am in the city and at the main airport. Essendon Airport received 19mm, and Viewbank in the northeast got 30mm.
My PWS only got 11.9mm (yesterday + today) in comparison. Definitely more than what was expected.

A heavy rain watch for here on Wednesday/Thursday -no amounts yet, but the radio guy was talking 250mm for the ranges, and a 100mm for the coast.
Lovely conditions today, with 26C and an 18C dewpoint -about my ideal summer temperature.
Cicadas really starting to crank up now, and going through the night.

The Aussie mountains received some snow dustings, chiefly Tasmania. There was also a 1° C low for Kiandra recorded yesterday, with a 12° C high. Still didn't beat the 0.8° C recorded at Dog Rocks and Essington State Forest earlier in December, however. Wish Lerwick could cop something like that...

Since 9am (it's 610pm right now): Perth: 47.8mm Jandakot (nearest to me): 52.4mm Swanbourne (the beach): 73.6mm Bickley: 66.6mm
All of this rain is coming from the tropical low. Tomorrow should be partly cloudy and 31C, humid, with 20-30km/h NE winds. Perth got 7mm before 9am and most of the other stations got between 3-10mm before 9am.

Invercargill, of all places 42C, sheesh. Maybe on someone's tin roof in the middle of the day. Average rainfall for perth is 16.7mm too. I noticed the media were doing that classic "3 TIMES THE MONTHLY RAINFALL IN ONE DAY!!!" thing but those are some pretty decent totals. What was last february, like 9/10 times the monthly total in one day?
