It is no doubt an error. Being more than 5C lower than the previous record low, and with hot days surrounding it, no chance it got that cold. The nearby stations were all above 10C on that night aswell.

Following up from JG's confirmation รฐat รฐis is an error...which is fรฅcken unacceptable by รฐe way! ...Is 1.1 ยฐC very out of รฐe ordinary รฐis time of year รฐere? 1.1ยฐ C is something I'd expect from Orange, Taralga or Cooma (all above 600 m AMSL) at this time of year. Rather strange for it to occur as low as West Wyalong, hence my notion that it was an error. In fact, even these higher locations would struggle to score 1.1ยฐ C in summer. It is certainly possible in such a location at this time of year, however. Bathurst to Glanmire (650-787 m AMSL) even had a light snowfall dusting about the summer of 1923, according to local farmers!

As could be expected with the warm summer weather in New Zealand, the record lows have been mild so far, with 0.2C in Dec (at Tekapo 600m ) and 1C in Jan ( Manapouri at 200m)
Coldest for Motueka was 5.2C in Dec. Jan didn't get below 12.1C.

Heavy rain and wind warning in effect for Motueka on Tue/Wed- no totals yet, but could be a biggie.
Have issued orders for the crew back home to clear all drains and ditches, and to stake the trampoline down.

Some totals now forecast for Motueka from ex cyclone Gita, with 150-200mm of rain forecast over 12 hours from Tuesday morning, and winds up to 150km/h, and thunder.
I will be missing out on a bit of wild weather - I hope it's not going to be like last February's storm, which blew about half my tamarillo crop off the trees

The high today, in Observatory Hill, was less than the low of the previous night, 23.6C vs 23.7C. Not a super common occurrence, the last time by the looks of it was back in December.

A variation in totals from the storm in Motueka, with anywhere from 100mm to 240mm -everywhere got the rain, but some places got a 2-3 hour period with sustained torrential rain. Some big slips, with washed out roads/ bridges/ houses etc. The wind knocked over a lot of trees and powerlines.
Great picking weather here in Shepparton -spits of rain for about 3 hours this morning and a cloudy, moderately humid 29C afternoon - great humid subtropical weather.

I actually constantly wonder about this. I've even written to the bureau about it.

That caught my eye aswell. WTF What really pisses me off is the BOM's sunshine obs these days, many stations have 1-2 days missing a month, fucking completely ruining the dataset. Par for the course for Loxton and Mildura. What the hell causes this, why the hell does almost every bloody month have those 1-2 days missing, when the other 29 fucking days are there?? Either have the complete dataset, or not have it at all Either cost cutting, or Brisbane has been too warm this month lmao

I actually constantly wonder about this. I've even written to the bureau about it. Well it has a table of monthly averages which require 10 years of stable and verified data... Do you know how long this has been happening for?

I've seen it in country stations a fair bit but you can kind of let them off the hook, however - the third biggest city in Australia? Nah. Pick up your game, BoM. Also where does Canberra get sunshine data from, if it does get any?

Do you know how long this has been happening for? Quite a while by the looks of it, but some years are worse than others, 2017 and 2015 are the worst recent years by some margin But every year since 2012 has at least one month with two missing days. Rainfall looks quite poor too
