Sweden- it is a country and a area wise a big country. If to compare Mallila vs Võru, then you see august in the latter is a bit warmer than July in the first. I care both highs and means. Highs are important too as it is important how many 20c, 25c, 30c days in summer someone gets. If one gets more- that is good, if one gets less- that is bad. As for winter- I prefer rather cold ones- but with clear skies and starting and ending in right time. I winterisch conditions occure in early november or middle of march or whenever in wrong time- when it is bad. When in right time- ok. I don't know is there correlation between summer and winter although it is widespread belief that if winter is mild then summer will be cool and crappy. As for winter- winter is winter, it makes not that much sense is it a "warm" or not thus the "warmth" in winter is pretty useless. If I could upgrade or improve my climate (upon condition that the daily mean will remain the same) I would rather even make January's daily mean 5c degrees colder but under the expense of it I would make daily means of months from May to Sept warmer, +1c per each. As for 4-season climates of Europe- I like this one btw, what were Umea's January and February daily means in 1981-2010 or in earlier reference periods? Well, if you want winters cold then obviously you're gonna prefer Vöru to anywhere in Sweden. Winters are probably sunnier as well since it's inland. Umeå's January and February means were 9.1 and 8.7 respectively in the 1961-1990 period.

Between 39th and 40th parallel north
Best: Medium-sized coastal Portuguese cities (Caldas da Rainha / Marinha Grande, etc.)
Worst: Kashgar / Palma
Between 48th and 49th parallel north
Best: Paris / Rennes / Victoria
Worst: Khabarovsk

I think Steinkjer might wreck Umeå and anywhere in Sweden north of Hudiksvall.

Worst: Ulaanbaatar Best: ? "best:?" Is that possible that you secretly hope someone else goes and starts to prise perhaps your place's climat? Yes, that someone may come. But that someone may also come and give you a battle. Probably not from Ulaanbaatar but he may be for instance from Volgograd on 48°N and then it will be a battle of ... you obviously know quite well what was the old name of the above mentioned Russki place I appreciate your cautiousness and - good luck!

This month surely Nyköping In all seriousness, I believe this region is by far better than anything Europe and the rest of the world shows up at this often miserable latitude.

No. 17°C Septembers here, and winters are only colder there because cold snaps are deeper and I don't like it being below -10°C at all. Just sayin'. Tartu is also major fail in March when it comes to the warm-up phase.

This month surely Nyköping In all seriousness, I believe this region is by far better than anything Europe and the rest of the world shows up at this often miserable latitude. Well, I was being sarcastic then commented the alphatier's wise posting style. I was sarcastic because I remember how I was attacked and bashed I am going to have endless debates with Swedish posters here, let alone with someone from australia or africa (on the climate of this yes, often miserable latitude). That would be annoying and childish. You may think whatever you like to think. (And overall, this is your forum ) This year so far may in KOLMARDEN-STROMSFOR has been indeed 1.2c warmer than here. But it is just two first decades of May. Secondly, take into account that Russia has shown up so far really nothing special. (In the meantime the whole western side of Europe has been really warm). That means that the east has something in store. And thirdly, no mater of having had that 1.2c higher daily mean the above metioned Kolmarden has had 14 above 20c days so far and my nearest station has had 16 such days. How interesting.

Kolmården is at 96 m asl in or something alike It's also in a rural area. Basically the highest possible elevation you can get in this area so it's not representative at all of sea-level towns, come on.

and Võru is at 84 m asl. And it is also in a rural area (and overall, almost all stations are here in rural areas ). So, yes, in all seriousness, I almost always get more above 20c days than my fellow posters on the same latitude in west

No, actually I couldn't make up my mind. I wanted to pick just one. Seattle, Rennes, Vienna, Freiburg, Strassburg - all decent climates. Stalingrad is not that bad but obviously Paris is superior at that latitude. On second thought I might go with Vienna for its warmer summers and higher UHI, seeing they have close to 20C lows right now.
